House introduces bill to make war on Russia

Marching to August, 1914

  • Idiot Alert  -  Both Dems are Republicans are looking to arm troops right on Russia's border.  That should work out well.  When Russia tried that in Cuba the world almost went to nuclear war.  It is comforting to know that politicians are still fucking morons.

The House Armed Services Committee announced legislation Tuesday evening to provide $1 billion in lethal weapons to Ukraine, ratcheting up the pressure on President Obama to arm the country against Russian aggression.

The bipartisan legislation, introduced by committee Chairman Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, and top Democrat Rep. Adam Smith of Washington, “calls on the administration to give lethal aid" to help Ukraine fight back against Russia and increase the costs to Russian President Vladimir Putin to get him to back down, Smith said.

“I detect no disagreement at all that we should do this,” Thornberry said.

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said he is coordinating with Thornberry and the Senate "will be trying to do the same thing.”

Both Thornberry and McCain were in Germany over the weekend discussing Ukraine with NATO partners reports the Washington Examiner.

Two former undersecretaries of defense, who also were in Germany discussing the situation with NATO, told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday that the U.S. needs to arm the country.

“If we do nothing, there will be a military solution in Ukraine — the one imposed by Vladimir Putin,” said Eric Edleman, former undersecretary of defense for policy under former President George W. Bush.

Obama said Monday that he is considering sending weapons to Ukraine or imposing additional sanctions on Russia if peace talks this week fail. The president warned Putin that “the costs for Russia will rise” if the “aggressive actions” continue in Ukraine.

Neither Thornberry nor Smith would specify what the $1 billion, renewable through 2017, would be used to fund other than it would include “lethal defensive systems that are going to make a difference,” Thornberry said.
